Friday 20th September 2024 RE-APPLICATION PUBLIC CONSULTATION EVENT ON PROPOSED NEW QUARRY ADJACENT TO THE EXISTING QUARRY,  WATTEN,  CAITHNESS, KW1 5XR

PROPOSAL

A&D Sutherland Ltd will be submitting a planning application to form a new quarry (34.6 hectares) adjacent to existing Spittal Quarry for the purpose of extracting high grade Caithness flagstone. The existing quarry is now depleted and has less than 2 years’ supply of commercially usable material remaining. The extraction will be undertaken in phases with on-going restoration taking place in the quarried areas as the next phase progresses.

A public meeting and opportunity to ask questions will held at Caithness Flagstone Limited (former workshop at northern edge of village on A9 ), Spittal 2 Quarry, Spittal, KW1 5XR with the project team on:

 Thursday 12th September 2024 between 2.00 pm and 7.00pm.

We will be inviting comments on the proposal during and after this public event by post / email to contact address below.  Any comments should be received by the Agent Friday 20th September 2024.

 

A follow up public event will be held at the same venue on Thursday 26th September 2024 between 2.00 pm and 7.00 pm to address any issues raised at the 12th September event. Any comments should be received by the Agent by Friday 4th October 2024.

NEXT STEPS

Comments received will help to inform the next stage of preparing a planning application which we intend to submit in the late 2024. All responses to the public consultation will be included in the Pre-Application Consultation Report (PAC Report) which will explain the findings of this public consultation and will be submitted with the Planning Application. There will be a further opportunity to comment on the proposal once the scheme has been finalised and submitted to Highland Council as a full planning application.
